Yoshi has been Mario's best friend since Super Mario World for the SNES. In the Mario series, Yoshi is ridden by Mario to aid him on his quest by being able to grab enemies with his long tongue into his mouth and fluttering. He is also responsible for carrying Baby Mario to safety in the Yoshi series. He talks in a high-pitched and somewhat familiar voice, and occasionally says his name.

Yoshi also appears in the Mario Kart series, appearing in every title since the first installment, Super Mario Kart. Although he started off as a lightweight racer, he occasionally changes his weight class from a lightweight to a mediumweight in later games.

Characteristics[]

Yoshi is a green dinosaur-like character from the Mushroom Kingdom, with his hands, body, tail, and head a light shade of green, while his chest, cheeks and chin are white. His head consists of a huge and spherical nose, with two circular cheeks behind it, two large and comical eyes on top, and a set of small, round and orange plates along the back. His body consists of a short torso with a round chest, along with two narrow arms with big fingers, a smooth and short tail, and a smooth red shell on his back that has a white outline. He wears orange shoes, which look similar to Mario's, which have yellow bottoms.

Although he has never been seen without shoes, Boshi's appearance in Super Mario RPG: Legend of Seven Stars as well as the feet of the Yoshi Sphinx in Paper Mario: Sticker Star confirms that Yoshi has three clawed toes on each foot and padded feet.

Some of his powers include fluttering and devouring enemies with his long tongue.

There are different colors of the default Yoshi, which have different plate and shoe colors as well, though the white parts remain unchanged.
