The Super Nintendo Entertainment System (commonly abbreviated to SNES) is a gaming console inspired by Nintendo. It is the sequel of the Nintendo Entertainment System and the prequel of the Nintendo 64. It was released in 1990 in Japan and released in North America in 1991. The only Mario Kart title released on it was Super Mario Kart. It is also called the Super Famicom and the Super NES. Unlike the later Nintendo consoles, this console can only allow for up to 2-player gameplay instead of 4-player gameplay. This console was discontinued in 1998.
