A standing mini-turbo is a technique in Mario Kart Wii that allows the player to get a speed boost similar to that of a regular mini turbo while completely stopped.

To perform a standing mini-turbo, completely stop the vehicle, then hold down the Accelerate and Brake buttons. After several seconds, blue sparks will appear; at this time, release the Brake button and the vehicle will receive a boost. It is very useful for karts and bikes that have low acceleration, since for these vehicles it often takes very long to accelerate from zero to their top speed after being hit by an item. Instead it is faster for them to use this technique to get straight to their top speed instantly. The standing mini-turbo is not particularly useful for karts with high acceleration, since it is usually faster for them to simply accelerate as normal than to have to wait to charge up the turbo.
