Mushrooms appear in the Mario Kart series to increase a player's speed, giving the player a boost. They sometimes come in a pack of 3 (as Triple Mushrooms), allowing a player to have 3 seperate boosts.
In all games except for Super Mario Kart, you are given one to three Mushrooms (usually three) to use in Time Trial.
In Double Dash if you run into a kart that has an item while using the mushroom, you get that item. If you get hit while you have three mushrooms you will lose two.
