The Jetsetter (Aero Glider in PAL versions and Speeder in Mario Kart Tour) is a Kart in the Mario Kart series that debuted in Mario Kart Wii as an unlockable Large kart. It resembles a Le Mans Prototype car, and is the fastest vehicle in said game. It also appears in Mario Kart Tour under different variants.

Description[]

The Jetsetter's design is reminiscient to that of a Le Mans Prototype car. It features a round, three-pointed nose, where the middle point is shorter and wider. This point bears a stripe throughout the body as well as the character's emblem and a translucent windshield behind it, which is aside two huge stuck-out headlights. On the sides, there is a horizontal stripe in the middle, as well the character's emblem in the middle on each side. The sides also feature an aerodynamic part near the back, which holds a pattern that is more visible as it gets closer to the rear. It has 2 sets of wheels, with the front wheels being smaller and partially covered. In the cockpit is a large, comfortable gray seat with a steering wheel connected to the windshield. The rear features a wide spoiler, as well as a port located in between the rear wheels that bears 2 exhausts positioned vertically.

Its body is shaped similarly to the Streamliner from Mario Kart DS, but it uses more of a rectangular shape as opposed to the Streamliner's wedge-shaped body.

Appearances[]

Mario Kart Wii[]

The Jetsetter makes its Mario Kart debut in Mario Kart Wii as an unlockable Kart for Large racers. It is one of the three unlockable karts in the Large class along with the Piranha Prowler and the Honeycoupe. Its Bike counterpart is the Spear, since they have similar stats - especially Weight, which they both share - and bear similarities to a jet. Its medium counterpart is the Sprinter and its small counterpart is the Blue Falcon, as they are the fastest vehicles in their respective classes. It is Funky Kong's signature vehicle.

In terms of its stats, the Jetsetter has amazing Speed, giving it the title of not only the fastest large vehicle, but the fastest vehicle in the game; if paired with Funky Kong, no other vehicle can outrun it on straightaways without any speed boosts. It has decent Weight, though it is the lightest large kart, but it's still satisfactory at bumping other vehicles around.

As compromise to its great speed, it has low stats everywhere else, with its Handling, Off-Road and Mini-Turbo stats the lowest in the game. It also has terrible Acceleration, tying the Wild Wing for the third worst, behind the Flame Flyer and the Flame Runner. It also has weak Drifting capabilities. Therefore, the Jetsetter is almost unsuitable on tracks with many sharp turns, such as SNES Mario Circuit 3.

Its stat total is 222, which is the lowest of every vehicle in the game.

Mario Kart Tour[]

The Jetsetter reappears in the mobile spin-off game, Mario Kart Tour, though it wasn't released until 2022 when the Battle Tour came out. This time, however, it doesn't bear the "Jetsetter" name nor the "Aero Glider" name and instead it is simply known as the "Speeder".

Currently, there are 5 variants of the Speeder: The Green Speeder, the Flaming Speeder, the Blue Speeder, the Pink Speeder and the Holiday Speeder, which have Slipstream Plus, Dash Panel Plus, Mini-Turbo Plus, Jump Boost Plus, and Rocket Start Plus, respectively. All the Speeders are classified as High-End Karts, and they use the Slick tires from Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, though the tire and rim color varies for each variant.

Note: Only the Pink Speeder has an image as of now.

Trivia![]

  • The Jetsetter bears the highest proportion of a stat in Mario Kart Wii, in which case its Speed is 69 out of 80.
  • The Jetsetter has the lowest stat total of all vehicles in the game, at a mere 222 points.
  • Although the Jetsetter is the fastest vehicle in the game, only its bike counterpart, the Spear, can exceed its default speed if paired with Funky Kong, Rosalina, or a Large Mii.
    • If Bowser rides the Spear, then it speed will tie with the Jetsetter's default speed.
  • The Jetsetter is the only kart that weighs the same as its bike counterpart.
  • When unlocked, it shows Donkey Kong's Jetsetter. However, it shows Wario's in Time Trials.
  • If the Jetsetter is unlocked as the Lightning Cup is won for the first time in 150cc, the Honeycoupe, another Large kart, is unlocked as well.
  • Rosalina's and a Female Mii's Jetsetters are the only color schemes with a different windshield color, in which case Rosalina's is a brighter shade of yellow, and the Female Mii's is magenta.
    • Also, The Female Mii's Jetsetter is the only color variant to have its spoiler tip color to not match its body color; instead, it uses its windshield color.
  • The Blue Seven from Mario Kart 7 is likely to be a spiritual successor of the Jetsetter as it bears similar features to it.
  • Only Rosalina's and Donkey Kong's Jetsetter from Wii reappear in Mario Kart Tour as a variant of the Speeder.
  • In Tour, the Speeders reuse the Soda Jet's engine sound.
  • As of its appearance in Tour, it is the only Kart in the entire Mario Kart franchise to exist under 3 different names.
