Maka Wuhu (known as Wuhu Mountain Loop in PAL regions), is a one lap course appearing in Mario Kart 7. It is also the fourth and final course for the Star Cup. This track has not appeared in a recent Mario Kart game yet.

Layout[]

Maka Wuhu is quite similar to Wuhu Loop, but it has more uphill stretches and takes place in the evening. This track, like the other Wii Sports Resort track, has three sections.

  • Lap 1: The players start at Maka Wuhu during the evening. They start next to Camel Rock. They then go next to the Red Iron Bridge (Red Gate Bridge) to the base of Maka Wuhu.
  • Lap 2: The players drive through a cave and out the other side. The players go around Duckling Lake and Summerstone Castle (Lakeside Castle). However, there is a shortcut through Duckling Lake and another one though Summerstone Castle.
  • Lap 3: The players race down the mountain towards Camel Rock and then through it. They drive forward a bit to the finish line.

Glitches[]

There exists an infamous glitch which lets a player skip almost the entirety of the second section. This glitch is executed by dropping into the lake at the very entrance of the cave. To maximize success rate, drivers should plow into the lake using Mushrooms or stars. When done correctly, players should respawn at the area next to the castle, skipping most of the second section and going straight into the third section.

Controversy[]

Although the glitch is very helpful in single-player, despite the AI's tendency to rubberband itself back onto the player's tail, the glitch raised significant controversy in multiplayer, especially on Wi-Fi play. This controversy is due to the glitch's sheer effectiveness, the simplicity of execution, and encouragement of purposely dwindling in lower positions at the beginning of the game to receive the powerful items which ease performing the shortcut. It also over-centralized online play, as many players looking for a quick win repeatedly chose this course, to the dismay of other racers who did not want to play on the track. Nintendo has since then patched the issue in Wi-Fi to disable the glitch. The glitch however can still be preformed in Grand Prix, Time Trial, and StreetPass races.

Trivia![]

  • This is one of three courses to have the starting and finish lines in different places. However, the starting and finish lines are proximal, with a path connecting their locations, as can be seen when you cross the latter, with your character looping around the small loop after the finish line and then taking the path to the starting line to complete the lap.
    • The other courses with this special trait are Mount Wario and Big Blue in Mario Kart 8, whose starting and finish lines, however, are far apart, making a complete lap impossible, even in the post-race animation that plays, with the character just stopping a few seconds after crossing the finish line.
