A Mario Coin is a special brand of currency available to collect in Mario Kart Arcade GP 2 and Mario Kart Arcade GP DX. They are also available during certain team rallies in Mario Kart Tour.

Usage[]

Mario Kart Arcade GP 2[]

In this installment, Mario Coins can only be gathered when using a Mario Card. The way they're integrated into the game is similar to how Coins act in Mario Kart 7 and 8. They are distributed across every track in the game, and running into them adds them to the players depository.

Grabbing a certain amount of these Mario Coins will unlock special private karts and/or exclusive Items that only the player with the Mario Card can use.

Extra caution is needed when driving with these precious monies; running into a wall will knock some of them loose.

Mario Kart Arcade GP DX[]

Mario (Mario Coin)

A lone Mario Coin just ahead of Mario...

This game is more generous in its Mario Coin welfare... a Mario Card is no longer needed, as they appear whether you are on save data or not. Gathering 50 will open up an unlockable.

Also, bumping into walls won't result in losing any anymore, thankfully.\

Mario Kart Tour[]

This time it is called Mario team token. Unlike in the arcade games, Mario coins are only available during certain team rallies and if you pick team Mario in said rallies.

It has been in the following tours:

  • Mario vs Luigi Tour (2020)
  • Mario vs Peach Tour
  • Mario vs Luigi Tour (2022)
  • Mario vs Luigi Tour (2023)

Ways to Collect[]

Apart from grabbing them on the roadway, here are some more strategies to gather Mario Coins:

Mario Kart Arcade GP 2[]

  • As stated before, pick them up along tracks (Gathering 25 of them will get you a bonus of +5.)
  • Achieve high placement in the race for a bonus amount
  • Complete Challenge Games, and the player will achieve some according to their performance.

Mario Kart Arcade GP DX[]

  • Once again, collect them across the layout of courses.
  • A mysterious ?, which seems to be for another purpose.
  • A position bonus, awarded by placement in a race.
  • Selecting the correct chest after a won 1v1 in National Battle mode.

Trivia![]

  • On international versions of the game, Mario Coins are entirely useless...but they are still fun to collect.
  • These coins, although named after Mario, have nothing to do with him, except the letter "M".
  • An upgrade was added to Japanese cabinets in April 2016 where a Continue Bonus of 50 Mario Coins was awarded to Banapasspot users for continuing the game after a race.
  • Mario Coins look like Stop Signs.
