Starman (Mario Kart Wii) This article is not to be confused with the DS track, DK Pass. Starman (Mario Kart Wii)

DK Summit (DK's Snowboard Cross in PAL regions) is the third track of the Flower Cup in Mario Kart Wii. This track makes a retro appearance in Mario Kart Tour as of the Snow Tour, and in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as part of Wave 4 of the Booster Course Pass DLC, as the third track of the Fruit Cup.

The track takes place at a ski mountain, hence the track's PAL name, filled with many slopes, half-pipes, and Shy Guy Snowboarders. There is also thick snow which slows racers down. Apart from the name, this track is for Donkey Kong as it has a Barrel Cannon near the start, and a statue of him can be seen in the track's retro appearances.

Layout[]

Mario Kart Wii[]

The track starts in front of a grandstand full of spectators. Leaving the base, you turn right and enter a cannon that shoots you to the top of the mountain, depositing you just above the top of a chairlift. Immediately after reaching the top, you make a left-hand turnaround that houses two long half-pipes on either side. A giant statue of Mario (or a Mii if you are playing as a Mii in Mario Kart Wii) can be seen in the distance. After leaving the half-pipe section, one large snow ramp with a Dash Panel right beside a few bumps is present in the middle of the track. After this, the track jogs left and goes through a field of moguls and Dash Panel ramps. Exiting the mogul section, the track goes through two s-turns and ends in another half-pipe section populated with Shy Guy Snowboarders that will spin you out if you touch them. Once avoiding the snowboarding Shy Guys, the track makes a 90 degree right turn back toward the finish. As the race goes on, the dense fog seen in the beginning will start to clear slowly, until it is not present on the third lap.

Mario Kart Tour[]

This course makes its grand return as part of the Snow Tour for Mario Kart Tour, and comes along with a few changes. For starters, the starting banner has received a huge aesthetic change, now being made out of metal girders instead of wood, along with the classic Mario Kart logo being swapped out with the modern one, as with most returning classic courses in Mario Kart Tour, DS and onward. The sound heard before entering the cannon now uses the airhorn sound previously heard in Super Bell Subway, instead of a bell sound. A glider ramp has also been added before the cannon. After the first half-pipe section, the wooden Mario (or Mii) statue has been quite fittingly replaced with a Donkey Kong statue made of stone. Wooden ramps with Dash Panels now replace the snow ramps in the mogul section. The shortcut in the double S-turn section previously possible in the original version has been removed due to Mario Kart Tour's mechanics. There is now also one Dash Panel instead of two before entering the final section. In addition, the Jumbotron seen in the original has also been removed, and along with that, the fog effect is also absent, with it now being sunny throughout the whole race. Other than that, the course's general aesthetic has been kept mostly intact.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe[]

Not long after its reappearance in Tour, DK Summit returns again in Wave 4 of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass DLC, as the third race in the Fruit Cup. The course keeps many of the aesthetic changes from Tours redesign of the track, though there is some modifications. Firstly, more spectators have been added around the course, and along with that, the cannon now has visible frost over it. Mountains present in the background have some more depth and shading added to them to make them look more realistic. The half-pipe designs have been changed to that of an Antigravity Panel, as with other courses with half-pipes in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The Donkey Kong statue has been kept, though is now made of wood once more, all as a callback to the original statue. The snow ramps in the mogul section that were made wooden in Tour, have now been transformed into simple Dash Panel ramps. Moving forward, the shortcut that cuts through the double S-turn section has been re-added in this version after its removal in Tour. On the topic of things being brought back, the Jumbotron from the original has also made a reappearance and now has a new design.

Shortcuts[]

  • Using a mushroom or power item, you can cut through many snow patches present in this course.
  • At the end of the mogul section, there are two gaps that you can drive over to save a few seconds. This shortcut is not easy to perform, but it's possible in both Mario Kart Wii and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Trivia![]

  • This is the only Flower Cup track in Mario Kart Wii that does not have a discovered ultra shortcut.
  • This is the only Mario Kart Wii track to have a different PAL name.
  • Underneath the S-shaped curve are three item boxes in a straight line that can be seen with hacking & a glitch without hacking. They can't be obtained as Lakitu will rescue you.
  • This course was originally supposed to come as the second track of Mario Kart 8 Deluxes Fruit Cup (as evidenced by it being labeled in the files as "Cnsw_42").
