Dry Dry Ruins is the first track of the Special Cup in Mario Kart Wii. This track makes a retro appearance in Mario Kart Tour as of the 2023 Ninja Tour.

This desert-themed track is filled with Pokeys, Falling Pillars, and some. As its name suggests, there is also a ruins section with Half-pipes and a pit that fills up with sand overtime. This track is based on Dry Dry Desert from Mario Kart: Double Dash!!.

Yoshi racing through the ruins section of Dry Dry Ruins in Mario Kart Wii

As the first track of the Special Cup in Mario Kart Wii, Dry Dry Ruins takes place on a desert filled with cacti with a ruins site halfway through and a river. It has bright sand as the road and dark sand as off-road. There are Pokeys spread throughout the track, which spin racers out when they hit them. As time progresses, the Falling Pillars will fall to the ground, allowing racers to perform tricks and possibly jump across off-road sections. It is apparently Yoshi's course as the are three Sphinxes with Yoshi heads (though they are Miis if you're a Mii).

Racers start behind an Egyptian-styled arch along with large pillars beside the racers. First is a wide right turn that has an off-road patch in the middle with some Pokeys spread throughout the turn. Next is another right turn, but it is narrow, and the road goes downwards until a certain point, leading racers to a brick bridge that is damaged, which goes past a river. A short left turn lies ahead, followed by a wide right turn, but be careful as the right side of this turn has an off-road patch. After this turn is another short left turn, and there is a straightaway that leads racers to the ruins site.

As racers enter the ruins the music changes and Swoopers may fly at them just like they do in Wario's Gold Mine, making racers stop when they touch them. The entrance has walls on the ruins have Pokey hieroglyphs, which consists of a narrow bridge that lacks guardrails, with sand falling from up above into a large pit where racers can end up if they aren't paying attention. Then there is a sharp right turn followed by a sharp left, which have half-pipes on the walls as well as sand on the ground that slows racers down. A short straightaway that slightly goes upwards is next, which is followed by two sharp right turns. Then there is a straightaway that goes downwards, leading to a wide hall with a wide and short pit in the middle, which has 2 Pokeys in it. This pit slowly fills up with sand from the holes that fall from up above, and at some point there is so much sand in the pit that it may force racers to take a slightly longer route across the pit's outside. Racers leave the ruins via a Dash Panel ramp, where there is another wave of flying Swoopers. This is followed with some minor inclines, leading racers back on the road. Next is a short left turn that starts to go downwards and then a wide right turn that goes around a huge rock. Then there is a left turn, leading racers to the Finish Line.

Overtime, Falling Pillars will fall onto the track. There are some at the first turn, one at the off-road patch on the right turn after the bridge, and three at the straighaway before the ruins site.

Mario Kart Tour[]

Dry Dry Ruins finally makes its first appearance as a retro track over 14 years later in Mario Kart Tour as of the 2023 Ninja Tour. Nothing much has been changed in comparison to its original appearance, except for updated graphics. The biggest change is that the sand pit in the ruins section mainly fills from the centre, and tricks can now be performed on them. On the final (second) lap, however, the pit is still available for effective use, but the piles of sand are larger than in the first lap.

Shortcuts[]

  • Before the brick bridge with a Pokey, there is a large pile of sand on the left. Use your Mushrooms to drive over the sand.
  • There is another pile of sand near the end of the track on the right side of the large rock. Use a Mushroom to drive over it effectively.
