Coin Runners MK7

The battle as seen in Mario Kart 7.

Coin Runners is a Battle Mode introduced in Mario Kart Wii. In this mode, players are split into two equal teams with a three minute time limit, and coins are scattered all over the battleground. Players can pick up coins by running over them. More coins will fall from the sky periodically until a certain amount of them are on the field, then they will stop falling (unless coins go out of bounds, in which case they will disappear and reappear at a random spot on the field). Getting hit by a Banana Peel or a Fake Item Box causes the player to lose three coins, while getting hit by most other items causes him to lose half of his coins rounded up (with a minimum of three). Getting hit by a Star or a Mushroom causes the rammer to steal 3 coins. At the end, whichever team has the most coins wins the round. The battle game returns in Mario Kart 7 and it has a two minute timer. In addition, the battles can now be played by themselves, but no player may possess more than ten coins during a round, like in regular racing. The European version of this game refers to Coin Runners as Coin Battle. In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Coin Runners is back this time the time limit is set by you and can range from 1-5 minutes also, just like Mario Kart Wii, players can hold as much coins as they like however coin runners this time is a lot more hectic as there will be other players carring like 30 coins due to the removal of the Spiny Shell so they had to make it harder somehow.
